Costa customers slammed for 'entitled' behaviour when they opt to sit in café

Lots of people visit coffee shops every day, with Costa being a go-to for many Brits on-the-go. The coffee shop chain has been serving punters for decades, but it seems there's one thing customers do that really rub people up the wrong way.

A post was recently shared to Reddit which highlighted one "entitled" thing that some customers do when they decide to sit inside the café to enjoy a cuppa and a cake. It may be quite a bold view, but it's seriously got people talking, as it centres around something that many Brits love dearly - their pet dogs.

The anonymous person detailed his Costa issue on Reddit, as they think it's become a real problem. It comes weeks after it was announced the brand is set to be sold.

In the post, the person shared a question that was asked on X by Andy Butler, which read: "Hi Costa, we couldn’t find a dog policy on your website, though signs are in-store. We fed our dog from their own bowl (no crockery used) but were asked not to.

"Why is baby food allowed for children but not this? Could someone review and get back to us?"

The person who shared the post then added: "The entitlement of customers never ceases to amaze me. Imagine sitting drinking your cappuccino and another customer [on] the next table is scraping pedigree chum into a bowl for his dog."

Thousands of people have engaged with the post, which is perhaps unsurprising. The viewpoint certainly got a lot of people talking.

One person said: "Are they really comparing a mother feeding their child baby food to them feeding their dog? I love dogs, but I can’t stand people who think their dog should have the same rights as a child."

Another added: "Ugh, I have dogs and cats and I hate the smell of their food. Can’t stand the thought of someone doing this inside in public so everyone has to smell it."

A third replied: "Is this person serious? Dog friendly does not mean make yourself at home in a place that is intended for people."

Others had different views though, as someone else wrote: "Oh guys! It’s a commercial decision. People like to take dogs out and to feed their dogs.

"Most places have dog free areas. If you don’t want to be in places with dogs, go somewhere else. The more dog friendly it is, the more we go, and the more we spend. AND THAT DRIVES THE DECISION MAKING. That’s freedom of commercial choice."

Someone else also chimed in with: "Uhm, what's wrong with feeding your dog? Why is everyone p****d about a dog eating in a place that allows dogs? You may want to look into places that aren't allowing dogs if it's such a big issue."

However, Costa did manage to clear something up. The company replied to the original post, saying: "Hi Andy. Please accept our apologies, we do not currently have a policy on feeding your dog in store, but we do provide water bowls outside.

"We will however pass your comments onto the relevant team accordingly. Thanks."
